How to Learn Languages in your Free Time

There are many ways to learn languages in your free time.

Get a Notebook

Write anything related to the language that you are learning. For example, if you are learning Spanish, write anything you feel like expressing in that target language you are learning. If you find it difficult to describe, you can google translate or open your dictionary and learn new vocabulary for the word you want to express.

Music

If you are a music lover and like to listen to music in that language you are learning, you can comprehend what they are singing. When you first start listening to the music in your target language, you may not understand a single word. Every time we learn to grasp the different contexts of songs, mainly because there are many like love songs, heartbreak songs, etc. You will pick up a common word that they use. You can read the lyrics as you listen to the music. Any comments that you don’t know, you can translate. It is a great way to kind of keep all those vocabulary words and phrases in your mind.

Watch Movies and TV Shows with Subtitles

If you find an excellent TV series in that local language, watch them because it will help you learn how words are pronounced or the intonation of the voices when they speak that language. It is beneficial because you can look at words that you see and express yourself in a pronounced way, but it’s another thing to like to have that intonation. So if you are learning a language, surround yourself with people who speak it and listen to how the words are spoken. So, it is recommended to check out foreign films which are available plenty online to learn.

Read Children’s Books

Children’s book is an excellent way to start your language learning journey in your free time, and it is the best way because it’s going to be hard if you jump in straight into an adult novel. Children’s books are always great because you will learn basic vocabulary and build your confidence to progress to higher levels. One way to do this is to get the translated version of the book you have already read in your native language.

Follow Social Media Personalities

Find celebrities or even YouTubers who speak the language that you are learning and follow them. In this way, you will be able to find their community, which makes similar videos.

Take Advantage of Free Apps

There are so many free applications, such as Duolingo, which is excellent for expanding your vocabulary. There is a gamification process, too, in which you can refresh your target language skills and see the progression you have made.

Lastly, the most effective way to have progressed in your target language is to find a language exchange partner online who is a native speaker of the language you’re studying and is also interested in learning your native language. The most popular one is italki which is user-friendly, so you won’t have to spend your time browsing around. You can also select the language of your interface, making finding what you need very easy, even if you are a beginner. There are others also such as Conversation Exchange, Tandem Partners, and Meetup, to name a few.
